ow to add music to PowerPoint
In this article, I will explain how you can add music to PowerPoint 2007 presentation. The process is fairly straightforward and there are just a couple of options you can configure.
Note that in PowerPoint 2007, you can also record sound for each slide and therefore create a audio and visual presentation if you like where everything is synced nicely.
How to add music to PowerPoint
First, click on the Insert tab on the Office Ribbon and then click on the Sound button to the far right.
You’ll now see a few options from the drop down: Sound from file, Sound from Clip Organizer, Play CD Audio track, and Record Sound.
If you already have an audio file that you want to insert into your presentation, then choose Sound from File. PowerPoint 2007 supports number audio file formats including AIF, AU, MID, RMI, MP3, WAV, and WMA.
Choose Sound from Clip Organizer if you want to search Microsoft Online collections for free sounds. Just type in a search term and you’ll get a list of sounds that you can insert into each slide.
If you have a CD with music tracks on it, you can actually have PowerPoint play the CD during your presentation. Remember, though, that if you use this option, you need to make sure that the CD is inserted into the drive on whichever computer is playing the presentation.
You can tell it which track to start on and which track to stop on. You can also continuously loop the music if you like. Pretty neat feature if you have a CD from a store and you only want to play a specific part of it.
Finally, you can record audio into your presentation if you have a microphone attached to your computer. I would suggest making one recording for each slide that you want audio on because when you play the presentation, each slide can play it’s own audio files.
Once you have inserted audio into the presentation using any of these methods, you’ll see a small little audio icon in the slide. Click on that and you be able to see a Sound Tools tab at the very top.
The Sound Tools bar allows you to configure the settings for the sound that you just inserted.
You can preview the sound by clicking on the green button at the far left. You can adjust the volume of the sound to Low, Medium, High, or Mute.
The Hide During Show checkbox will hide the audio icon that is currently in the slide. By default, that audio icon will show up, so check this box if you want to hide it.
The Loop Until Stopped box will continuously play the audio file you specified until the PowerPoint presentation is over.
Play Sound has several options: Automatically, When Clicked, and Play Across Slides. By default, automatically is selected and will play when the slideshow starts and will end once you move to the next slide. When Clicked will only play it once you press the mouse button. Play Across Slides will allow the sound to continue to play to the next slide if it has not finished rather than cutting it off.
Finally, you can also specify the max file size for the audio file. I’m not 100% sure what exactly that does, but I am guessing it tries to compress the sound to fit that size.
That’s it! It’s pretty simple to add music and sounds to PowerPoint 2007, making your presentations more fun to watch! Enjoy!

How to Share a Keyboard and Mouse Between Two Computers
I’ve noticed that a lot of people (particularly advanced computer users) seem to use more than 1 computer at a time, and are constantly propelling themselves along to the next computer with their wheeled chair. So, I’ve decided to share with you all, the two ways of how to share one keyboard and mouse between two computers.
Please check that the two computers you wish to share one keyboard and mouse between are networked, as this is the only requirement.
So, I will show you two easy and clean ways to do this.
Method 1: Input Director
Input Director is a windows-exclusive program that allows you to control more than one computer without using more than one keyboard and mouse. With input director, you simply control both computers with the keyboard and mouse, and press a certain hotkey to change which computer you would like to control.
You can either use the hotkey method, or just move the cursor off the screen, and it will appear on the other computer, allowing you to use the keyboard for that one instead.
My favorite feature about input director, is the ‘clipboard’ feature. This feature allows you to copy something from one computer, and paste it on another computer. It’s very handy. Also, please note that the only systems that currently support Input Director are Windows 2000 (SP4), Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Vista. And may I please remind you that, the computers you wish to control simultaneously must be networked.
To download Input Director, go here http://www.inputdirector.com/downloads.html.
Method 2: Synergy
Synergy is very similar to Input Director, but is just as good. A nice little feature about Synergy is that it can control computers, even if they are different operating systems, which is really helpful if (like a lot of people) you have an XP and Vista. To change the computer you wish to control, just move the mouse off the screen, it’s as simple as that.
Synergy also supports the ‘Clipboard’ feature. My favorite feature of Synergy, though, is the fact it automatically synchronizes the screen savers of the computer’s it is controlling, so they start and stop at the same time. And, in addition to that, it can password-unlock all the computers with one password, so no need to go around unlocking all of the computers if they automatically lock.
To download Synergy, go here http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=406637.
The way both Synergy and Input Director work are the same, and it’s a very simple concept - It’s basically remote controlling a computer, without the real time screen appearing. Both software have their basis around a slave and master system, so only one computer is actually being controlled by a keyboard and mouse, but that computer almost mimics the actions onto the other computer, as if the ‘master’ is controlling the ’slave’.
The only problem I’ve found with the two programs, is sometimes the lack of compatibility, as Input Director does not support mac, or all that many Operating Systems really. Synergy supports a few more, but it’s still a hassle changing your computer’s operating systems to get this to work.
How to Connect Your Laptop/PC/Computer to Your TV
2. VGA - If you have a HDTV, then you will be better off connecting using a VGA cable. It gives much better quality than S-Video and as with S-Video, the cable is very cheap. You usually won’t find a VGA port on regular TV’s though, so this option is if you have an HDTV.
3. DVI - DVI stands for Digital Visual Interface with “digital” being the key word there. The digital signal will give a higher quality picture than either S-Video or VGA. Of course, your computer will need to have a DVI connection and your TV will need to be an HDTV. This cord is definitely not cheap, it ranges anywhere from $40 to $80.
4. HDMI - Using HDMI will give you the best quality by far. No computers that I know of yet have HDMI ports, but you can get a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to your HDTV. HDMI is compatible with DVI.
5. Scan Converter Box - This is the last method that I could think of and it involves using a scan converter box, which takes a VGA signal and converts it into S-Video or component video.

How to Check All of Your Email Accounts from Gmail
If you’re ok with Outlook, then there’s not a problem. However, if you prefer to use Gmail for everything since it’s web-based and therefore not tied down to one computer like Outlook, then you might be interested in knowing how to setup all of your email accounts in Gmail so you can receive all emails via your Google Inbox.
So here’s how to setup Gmail as a master account for collecting email from all of your other online accounts:
First, log into your Gmail account and click on Settings at the top right corner.
Now click on the Accounts tab and click on Add another email account under the Get mail from other accounts heading.
Now you’ll be presented with a little pop-up window where you can enter in the email address for the account you want to add in. The cool thing about this is that you don’t have to sit there and worry about finding the pop and smtp server names for your ISP, Google will automatically try to determine the servers for you based on the email address!
After I entered my email address, Google automatically determined the POP server name and the port number. All you have to do is enter in your password for the account.
You also have the option to leave a copy in your account, label the messages from the new account so you can sort them quickly, and to archive them directly so that they don’t show up in your Inbox.
Now the email accounts will be checked by Google on some periodic basis and the emails will be retrieved and stored according to your preferences. Unfortunately, you cannot set the time period for the email checking.
Even if you do not want to use Gmail as a catch-all account, it’s still a great way to backup all of your other email accounts, especially if you’re using Outlook. Just configure each new account to be archived automatically. That way, you can continue to check emails through Outlook, but it’ll all be backed up on Gmail too. If your computer crashes and you lose your Outlook data file, the emails will still be in Gmail! Enjoy!
There are hundreds of languages in the world, but the smile speaks them all...so Keep Smiling...
No more CODEC blues with VLC media player
How many times have you double clicked a video file in windows and ended up with either no sound or just a blank player window? If you are really lucky you will get one of those error messages that hints at the fact that WMP is going to go and find the CODEC and download it for you. Of course, we all know that was a joke programmed into WMP by Microsoft, who says Mr Gates has no sense of humor? But you can have the last laugh, and this is where VLC comes in.
VLC or to give it’s full name VideoLAN is a fairly lightweight media player, it is quite capable of playing the full spectrum of sound files, but where it really shines is as a movie player. I have never ever found a video file that VLC cannot play perfectly, no need for CODEC packs and video conversion tools, VLC contains every CODEC know to mankind, and a few that were invented by Aliens (ok Apple Mac users), and as such it simply works.
You won’t find a pretty interface, funky screen gadgets, support for those silly buttons that manufacturers like to stick on a laptop these days and make it look like a DVD player, or massive amounts of system resource usage. You will find an application you cannot live without.
VLC is capable of so much more than simply opening and playing files, check out the picture above, you can clearly see that VLC can open the full range of data sources, from DVDs to video capture devices. And here we have the second hint at the real power of VLC, and something I fully intend to talk about in a future article in some depth.
The first clue is in the name VideoLAN, the second clue is the Open Network Stream on the file menu. VLC is not only a streaming client, it is also a streaming server. Whenever you open a data source in VLC, you have the option of outputting to a stream.
A major function of VLC that is seldom explored by users, is the fact you can change the control interface. I don’t mean visually, I mean functionally. For example, you can tell VLC to stop taking commands from the Windows GUI and start listening over telnet, or from a system console for control commands. A little imagination can come up with some pretty funky uses for this.
My personal favorite is enabling the web interface, which switches on the in-built HTTP server and allows control of the player from a web page. It is the web interface I am going to explore in a forthcoming article, I will describe how I used VLC as the backbone for a TV on demand service for my entire gaming clan.

Mobile Phone Tips
FOUR THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO
Very, very useful info.
4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.
SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!'
THIRD Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.
FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends
